About Frank Herbert


Frank Herbert was born in Tacoma, Washington and worked as a reporter and later editor of a number of West Coast newspapers before becoming a full-time writer. His first sf story was published in 1952 but he achieved fame more than ten years later with the publication in Analog of 'Dune World' and 'The Prophet of Dune' that were amalgamated in the novel Dune in 1965.

    《沙丘》在国外人群中的地位相当于今人心目中的《西游记》，往往都是从媒体啊，游戏啊等渠道上了解得很多，但实际没几个人有认真看过原著了。在魔戒还没发迹前就已经有很多老文青热爱了，哪怕是没看过的老头老太也都听说过它，我很小的时候经一金发美女的奶奶介绍就憧憬着能观摩，大一点后在外公的书柜里找到，那时随便找本字典，只看懂60％字的看了大概一星期，绝望了，觉得自己水平太差，居然看不下去。后来初中居然给我弄到本中文版，翻译得其烂无比。但至少证实了我的一点疑惑，也就是应该是因为我的审美跟很多人不一样，而不是我的阅读能力有问题。我天生对那种结构繁杂，设定丰富，内容琐碎的小说很不感冒。总觉得言语不生动，对话不幽默的故事一点不能引起我这种当代书迷的共鸣。国内新出了3本《沙丘》《沙丘救世主》《沙丘之子》，原作者已经去世，据说其儿子和一些作家合作已经写到了第17本。网络上流传有老版本那个奇差无比版，想要的问斑竹。

《沙丘》（Dune）。这部贯穿着救世主主题的长篇小说围绕着帝国阴谋和沙漠世界生态学展开，为嗣后诸多续篇和一部动人电影打造了一个读者群。1966年获雨果奖和星云奖。其他精彩作品：《海龙》（The Dragon In The Sea, 1956）；《桑塔罗加堡垒》（The Santaroga Barrier, 1968），Children of Dune 沙丘之子，Dune Messiah 沙丘救世主。（早期国内的 沙丘 译本不能说不用心，但导致了大多数人的阅读障碍，就跟台湾的 魔戒 一样，虽然早有译本，但直到用心且是设定迷的 朱学恒 来翻译后才爆发出销售奇迹，可见大陆的 幻译 类书籍要走的路还很长）。
